Description | MIGA issued a guarantee to Schmalbach-Lubeca AG of Germany covering a portion of its $13 million equity investment in Braspet Industria e Comércio de Embalagens Plásticas Ltda. (Braspet) in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The $5 million insurance covers the investment against the risk of transfer restriction. The project is the acquisition, modernization and financial restructuring of the Braspet facility. Braspet produces polyester fiber, resin, and bottles. Total annual production capacity is expected to increase by about 25 percent, to reach about 700 million units. Schmalbach-Lubeca will provide technical and managerial expertise in operating production plants and will involve a transfer of skills and technology from Germany. Local businesses will benefit from the project, as all the raw materials and goods supplied are procured locally. |
