BREAKing THE WALLS (BTW) is proposed by a consortium of 4 entities from 3 different EU countries (ITA, SK, P) and it addresses young breaking dancers aged 11-18 who will join a capacity building course with the aim of personal and collective growth, to understand and accept their feelings, and to provide them with the tools to better communicate and express themselves, easing the sense of oppression and isolation that Covid-19 left on them. This course will be facilitated by the use of Dance Movement Therapy (DMT), with the help of professional therapists who will guide young dancers in discovering their bodies and their souls, also having the opportunity to develop their dance skills thanks to the involvement of professional breakdancers providing artistic insights. Young participants will then travel across the participating countries to disseminate project results and impacts, promoting DMT workshops open to Hip-hop artists and members of the European hip hop community, their families, and friends and the general audience attending partners’ annual international hip hop events. Finally, at the end of this 2-years project young dancers will create a breaking show based on their DMT course and perform it in front of an international audience, closing the project; a video output will be produced after this performance and disseminated across Europe. Other activities include project coordination and monitoring and a European online communication campaign. Thus, the aim of the project is the improvement of mental health and artistic and creative skills of young participants and the creation of a multidisciplinary system supporting the recovery from the pandemic emergency. A total of 275.000 people will be impacted by the activities, messages, or topics addressed, through the international and high visibility that project partners have in the framework of hip-hop culture and events at the European and international levels.
