Description

Description

Breitener Energetica was granted the authorization to build and operate two diesel-fueled power plants located in Manaus, in the Amazon region (312 MW in total capacity). The project was developed by the Breitener consortium which signed a 20-year power purchase contract with the Manaus Energia utility, a subsidiary of the federal power company Elertonorte in June 2005. The Breitener consortium was formed by Skanska (35%), Brazil's federal energy company Petrobras (30%), Thermes (24%), local power equipment supplier Orteng (5.5%)and engineering firm Enerconsult (5.5%). In January 2010, the ownership of Breitener Energetica was restructured: state-owned Brazilian company Petrobras acquired the shareholding of Skanska, increasing its participation to 65%. Also in 2010, the power plants were converted to natural-gas fueld units. Breitner Energetica signed the 30-year contracts with the regulatory agency Aneel in July 2005, and the power plants were named UTE Jaraqui and UTE Tambaqui. The new plants in Manaus were expected to be ready for service between November 2005 and January 2006. UTE Tambaqui became operational in January 2006. The power plant had an initial capacity of 83.3 MW; in June 2011, Aneel approved the expansion of the capacity to 156 MW, but, as of March 2013, this new unit had not become operational. UTE Jaraqui became operational in April 2006. The power plant had an initial capacity of 83.3 MW; in June 2011, Aneel approved the expansion of the capacity to 157 MW, but, as of March 2013, this new unit had not become operational. The investment committed to both power plants was estimated as US$ 87.2 million (BRL 212 million), financed with the sponsors own resources. The power plant was to be built using equipment from Breitener’s power plant in Fortaleza which had a 3-year emergency contract. The contract expired in the second quarter of 2005. "Skanska's share of the additional investments will be about SKr150m (US$19.2m). Skanska's current investment in the Fortaleza plant amounts to about SKr85m (US$10.8m)." ????
