Description
Description | The Brenner Base Tunnel is the world's longest underground rail tunnel, stretching 55 km under the Alps to connect Italy and Austria. It aims to reduce congestion and pollution on the Alpine corridor by shifting freight traffic from road to rail, significantly reducing travel times and carbon emissions. The tunnel will cut passenger travel time between Fortezza in Italy and Innsbruck in Austria from 80 minutes to 25 minutes and improve freight logistics. The project has faced delays and cost overruns but marks a major step towards greener, better-connected European transport. |
