Description

Description

Kentucky and Ohio officials have broken ground on the Brent Spence companion bridge and highway expansion despite a pending National Environmental Policy Act lawsuit. The project aims to address traffic congestion on the Brent Spence Bridge, which was originally designed for around 80,000 vehicles a day but now carries over 150,000 vehicles daily. The project cost has ballooned to over $4 billion, with only $1.3 billion funded by the Department of Transportation, and the remaining $3 billion likely to come from local incomes, creating a tax burden. The project will also cause lane and ramp closures affecting small businesses and increase noise and air pollution, impacting residents and the environment.
