Description
Description | The project focuses on promoting the literary reportage genre through the enhancement of the “The Cursed Reporters” book series, published by Absynt publishing house, in Slovak translation. We aim to publish 8 translated works from 5 European countries, covering diverse geographical, historical, and cultural contexts that are underrepresented in the Slovak market. These books address important contemporary issues like geo-political conflicts, social inequality, human rights, environmental concerns, national identity and colonialism. Through the planned publications, we aim to raise cultural awareness, combat disinformation, and promote critical thinking among Slovak readers. The project includes 13 author discussions, which will be part of our Absynt Live festival, reaching audiences across Slovakia, including in smaller towns. Additionally, we collaborate with high school students through the School of Reportage initiative, fostering the engagement of the younger generation with high-quality literature. By strengthening cooperation with booksellers and libraries, we want to increase the dynamics between various actors of the book market, as well as visibility of European literature in Slovakia, enhancing access for a wide audience. Our focus on fair remuneration for translators, editors and graphic designers, along with pro-moting their work through publications and discussions, further supports the contribution of the publishing professions. This project aligns with the call's objectives by promoting linguistic and cultural diversity, expanding the transnational circulation of European literature, reaching new readerships and increasing competitiveness of different actors on Slovak book market. |
