Description | Opportunity In order to increase operational efficiency Brockville Hospital wanted to consolidate programs and services offered on the Garden Street site to the Charles Street site. The project involves the construction of a four-storey addition of approximately 175,000 square feet and approximately 20,000 square feet of renovations. In 2016-17, Brockville General Hospital had over 26,300 emergency department visits. Innovations Redevelopment plans to target LEED Silver design Enhanced and active civic presence along Pearl Street Six vehicular access points to the Hospital from the three bounding roadways to alleviate traffic congestion Integration of sustainable elements including storm water management bio-swales within parking areas, programmed landscape areas and an accessible green roof garden Integrates senior friendly design principles Results The project will involve construction of a four-storey addition and renovation of existing facilities at the Charles Street site. The new facilities will house the Acute Mental Health and Addictions Program (29 beds); Complex Continuing Care and Palliative Care (47 beds), Rehabilitation (17 beds); and support services including food services and environmental services. The new facilities will increase the hospital’s capacity by 22 beds. The redevelopment plans are targeting Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification including the integration of sustainable design elements such as storm water management and an accessible green roof garden. The Hospital will have six vehicular access points from the three bounding roadways to alleviate traffic congestion. The addition of a number of new beds, combined with a more efficient single-campus approach, will ensure a sustainable and viable community hospital.
