Description | BRO's Project VARTAK is the first project of the Border Roads Organisation, initiated in 1960 as Project Tusker and renamed in 1963. It focuses on the construction, development, and maintenance of strategic roads in the North Eastern Region of India, particularly in Sonitpur District of Assam and West Kameng and Tawang Districts of Arunachal Pradesh, extending up to the international border. The project manages approximately 2066.90 km of road network, including high-altitude and snow-bound regions, and carries out regular snow clearance and restoration works to ensure year-round connectivity for civilian and defense purposes.
