Description

Description

The BSFF takes place each spring in 5 different cultural places in Brussels but also in Wallonia and Flanders gathering more than 25000 spectators. Our goal: mixing different audiences and cultural places. We want to offer the audience the opportunity to discover a programme mixing quality and diversity with 300 short films. It is very important for us to invite the audience to meet directors in a very convivial atmosphere as it is essential to increase the interest of the public in short films. It is also what makes a festival a unique moment both for the audience and the directors. About 140 films are screened in competition (national, international or student competition) and 200 in side programmes. Since January 2018, the BSFF is an Oscars® qualifying festival: winners of the Great Prize of the International and National competitions are eligible for consideration in the Animated/Live Action Short Film category. The festival also organises, for free: - an introduction to cinema designed for young audiences (6 to 21) including screenings with educational material, interactive activities after the screenings, media literacy workshops, a youth jury, etc. - industry meetings and workshops: we want to be a springboard for future European directors and actors and guide them at the beginning of their career by offering them the opportunity to develop their project, meet producers and other key industry players in a relaxed, yet highly professional environment. Each year, 600 accredited professionals attend the festival and its market. Throughout its history, the BSFF has a long-standing track record of regular cooperation with other European festivals on a range of complementary activities involving film programming, invited countries, audience development or industry events. The European Short Film Audience Award created in 2019 or the European co-production forum are just a few examples of our commitment to carefullythought cooperation at a European level.
