Description

Description

The Bombay Suburban Electric Supply Company (BSES) Ltd was incorporated in 1929. In 1995, BSES completed the development of a 500-megawatt (2x250-MW) coal fired power plant at Dahanu. The project also involved the construction of three 220/33-kV receiving stations and extensions to BSES's 33-kv and 11-kv distribution and subtransmission systems. This project was financed in part through loans from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and The World Bank. In its fiscal year 1991, the IFC approved a $50 million direct loan and a $18 million syndicated loan. The World Bank provided financing through a $200 million loan. Including financing charges, the total project cost was $613.6 million. BSES has a 20-year license to operate the project until 2011, the maturity date of the IFC/IBRD loans. In 2003, Reliance Group picked up a 58.2 percent stake in BSES.
