Description | BSES Kerala Power Pvt. Ltd. was established to build and operate a 165 MW naphtha power plant in Kochi, Kerala in 1998. The company was owned by Bombay Suburban Electric Supply Company (60%), Kerala State Industrial Corporation (20%), and other Indian financial institutions and other investors (20%). The project, whose total costs were US$106.6 million, reached financial closure in 1998. The developers signed an escrow agreement with the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB). The project would normally be paid directly by the board or through a letter of credit. If KSEB defaults it will trigger the escrow arrangement. All revenues from certain areas of the board's territory would flow to an escrow account over which the project would have first rights.
