Description

Description

The developer of the up to 70-turbine Buchan Offshore Wind project off the Aberdeenshire coast has submitted its offshore consent applications to Scottish Ministers and plans to file a planning application for onshore works with the local authority later this year. The project is a floating wind project with an anticipated capacity of close to 1 GW, developed jointly by BayWa r.e., Elicio, and BW Ideol. BW Ideol is expected to provide its Damping Pool floating substructure and is working to establish a manufacturing centre at a former oil and gas fabrication yard on the Moray Firth. The project site is located 75 km northeast of Fraserburgh on the Aberdeenshire coast. The consortium obtained seabed development rights from Crown Estate Scotland in 2022 and has a grid connection agreement for an underground cable connection in the Peterhead area. The development is expected to invest over GBP 900 million into Scotland's manufacturing sector and supply chain, creating about 2,900 construction jobs and nearly 300 ongoing operational jobs. The connection date is set for 2033.
