The project involves the design and construction of an approximately 27 km electrified double-track railway line connecting Budapest’s city center with Liszt Ferenc International Airport, including both a new track alignment and the rehabilitation of existing sections of the national rail network. Works cover track and subgrade construction, overhead catenary (power) systems, traction power supply, signaling, telecommunications, and train control systems to support speeds from about 80 km/h up to 200 km/h.A key technical challenge is the construction of a deep underground station at the airport, requiring extensive excavation and structural works beneath active aviation facilities, while integrating into terminal areas and maintaining operations. The scope also includes associated civil structures such as bridges and interfaces with conventional rail traffic, and the concessionaire will be responsible for financing, building, long-term operations and maintenance under a 35-year concession.
