Description
Description | Buenos Aires Container Terminal Services S.A. is a joint venture of Bemberg Inversiones S.A. and International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) that was awarded the concession to operate the container terminal 5 at Buenos Aires in 1994. Since its full takeover in 6 June 1994, BATSSA has installed new equipment and systems and improved and expanded facilities and computerized operations. With a total project cost of US$ 80 million spread out over 10 years, BACTSSA has already invested US$ 60 million in Terminal 5. Terminal 5 has an annual operating capacity of 450,000 TEU, and handles 24 per cent of all containers passing through the Port of Buenos Aires. In the end of 1999, ICTSI acquired all shares of the project company. In 2001, Hutchison Port Holdings Acquired Overseas Assets of ICTSI - International Container Terminal Services, Inc. - shareholders of the 100 % of BACTSSA - Terminal 5 - Buenos Aires. In March 2013, before the contract ended, the concession was extended for 36 more months, including an investment plan for the period 2012-2015 that comprised upgrades in equipment, civil works and IT for a total amount of more than US$ 16 million. Exact amount of investment was not available. Update commitments to actual when available. |
