Description | Evergy must find a new route for part of a 133-mile transmission line, known as the Buffalo Flats transmission line, to avoid disturbing the Flint Hills ecosystem. The line runs from the Buffalo Flats substation in Garden Plain to the Kansas/Oklahoma state line, west of Caney, with an additional 30 miles extending to Delaware, Oklahoma. The Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) has ordered a new routing study for the portion crossing the Flint Hills, with strong consideration for a route parallel to U.S. Route 166. Evergy is required to submit a revised plan by June 12, 2026. The route west of U.S. 77 is approved with conditions to coordinate with homeowners and oil and gas lease operators. |
