Bugoye Hydro Electric Power Project

In November 2008, the Bugoye 13 MW “run of the river” hydro electric power project reached financial closure under a 20-year BOT contract. The project included 6 km of transmission line to deliver the electricity. The project was awarded to Tronder Power Limited (Norway) by the government of Uganda through direct negotiation. The date of the award was unclear from public sources. Tronder Power Limited signed a 20 year PPA with the Electricity Regulatory Authority to feed its energy into the main grid at the Nkenda Substation via a 6 km long 33 kV transmission line. Under the term of the contract, Tronder Power Limited was expected to construct and operate the 6km transmission line. The project was financed by a US$35 million loan from the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund (EAIF).
