Description

Description

The project aims at building bridges and awareness between the Saami people and EU institutions. By using the extensive network of the Saami Council, the project will explore, through a Saami lens, ways and means on how to strengthen the Saami voice within the EU. The project will host an Idea Lab on EU-Saami youth relations to foster and test new approaches to EU knowledge sharing by bringing Sámi youths together to find creative solutions in an open process. Further, the work package will explore how to ensure diversity and inclusion in the European Commission´s Traineeship programme by encouraging Saami youths to apply for traineeships. Healthy ecosystems are a prerequisite for Saami traditional livelihoods. The project aims at increasing the understanding of how Sámi traditional knowledge better can linked to the European Green Deal, including strengthen a fair, healthy and environmentally-friendly food system. The work will be based on the Saami Council preparations to the UN Food System Summit, including the Arctic Region Declaration for the global food system summit. The goal is to map documentation relevant to the Saami people that can be feed into the planned work on developing an EU framework for a Sustainable Food System. Saami language will be used throughout the project as part of the bridging process and information sharing. Hence, fact sheets and brief guides to the European institutions will be produced in Saami. Also, images and short videos for social media will be a mean to increase visibility of Saami within the framework of the EU.
