Description
Description | In recent years, Europe has faced transformative challenges stemming from the intersection of migration, populism, and shifting dynamics in identity and governance. At the same time, rapid advances in digital technologies and the urgent need to address climate change are redefining how societies function and interact. These dynamics have reshaped debates on identity, governance, and citizenship while testing the resilience of democratic institutions and values and underscored the importance of fostering dialogue and creating platforms for collaborative solutions that are inclusive, sustainable, and forward-looking. Recognizing the urgency of addressing these issues, the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence at Özyeğin University, titled BRIDGE –Building Research and Innovation in Identity, Diversity, and Governance in Europe, aims to serve as a hub for interdisciplinary research, innovative education, and impactful policy engagement. BRIDGE will explore the intersections of European identity, democracy, migration, and governance while aligning with the priorities of the Erasmus+ Programme, i.e., inclusion and diversity, digital transformation, environmental sustainability, and EU values. The BRIDGE project aims to foster excellence in education and research by introducing five interdisciplinary courses and capacity-building programs aligned with Erasmus+ priorities, reaching over 250 students annually. It advances innovative research through The Democracy Lab, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration and empirical studies on polarization and democratic governance, culminating in the Future of Democracy Conference. BRIDGE also establishes platforms for dialogue by partnering with different stakeholders while engaging students through a volunteer network. Finally, it strengthens public engagement by hosting lectures, podcasts, and outreach campaigns that promote EU values, ensuring long-term impact through an active digital presence and events. |
