Description

Description

The BRIDGE (Building Resilient Inclusive Democracy via Global Engagement) project aims to promote deliberative democracy by fostering inclusive, informed, and participatory decision-making processes. Despite growing awareness of deliberative democracy in Europe, its implementation remains fragmented, with no structured approach at the national or EU level. This project addresses the need for a systematic adoption of deliberative practices through an innovative training and research framework. Based at the University of Siena, the BRIDGE Centre of Excellence will engage students, policymakers, and practitioners in an experiential learning process that simulates real-world deliberative methodologies. The initiative is structured in three phases, reflecting the key stages of a deliberative process. The first phase focuses on providing foundational knowledge, selecting experts, and preparing briefing materials. The second phase involves training participants in selection techniques and moderation skills for deliberative discussions. The final phase evaluates the outcomes of deliberative processes, refines recommendations, and assesses policy impact. Each phase includes hands-on training, workshops, and international dissemination events to ensure the replication and sustainability of best practices. BRIDGE collaborates with key partners such as ALDA and Avventura Urbana, integrating academic research with real- world applications. The project will culminate in a comprehensive toolkit and manual to support institutions in implementing deliberative democracy frameworks. By enhancing democratic participation, BRIDGE strengthens civic engagement, counters misinformation, and fosters policy solutions grounded in informed public debate. This initiative contributes to the EU’s commitment to reinforcing democracy, transparency, and effective governance across member states.
