Description

Description

The proposed project supports the Municipality of Salvador, Brazil, to implement resilient infrastructure solutions that reduce climate risks and generate jobs and income for vulnerable communities. Targeting residents in high-risk hillside and low-lying areas prone to landslides and flooding, the project will finance integrated urban upgrading and nature-based solutions (NbS) in two priority communities — Vila Mar and Canabrava — including slope stabilization, green-blue corridors, bioswales, urban greening, and complementary gray infrastructure such as drainage, water supply, and sanitation improvements. The project will also support green and climate-resilient livelihoods with a focus on local hiring, youth, and women, and strengthen the institutional capacity of municipal agencies to mainstream and replicate NbS citywide. Financed by an IBRD loan of US$80 million with US$20 million in counterpart funding, the project is implemented by the Fundação Mario Leal Ferreira (FMLF).
