The main development objective of the Bujagali Hydropower Project for Uganda is to promote growth through developing least-cost power generation for domestic use in an environmentally sustainable and efficient manner. In addition to mobilizing private capital, the project promotes private sector ownership and managmeent of the power sector, and sector reform. The project has three cost components: construction costs, including engineering, civil works, supply and installation, EPC--engineering, procurement, and construction contingency--contingency; development costs, including land, access road, rights of way, resettlement, the Community Development Action Plan, and project development, etc.; and financing costs, including IDA (International Development Association), financing the Liquidity Facility, and the contingency and the Debt Service Reserve Account. The project consists of a small reservoir, a powerhouse, a rockfill dam, spillway, a 100 km transmission line, substations, and other associated works. This is a syndicated commercial bank loan guaranteed by IDA; an International Finance Corporation (IFC) A loan; and IFC B loan; and an IFC risk management instrument. AES Nile Power Limited (AESNP), a limited liability, privately owned and managed company, has been established to develop, construct, own, and operate the 200MW Bujagali Hydropower Plant and construct 100 km of transmission line, which will be handed over to the Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited
