Burundi - Emergency humanitarian assistance for victims of flooding in the city of Bujumbura

The proposed emergency aid operation is part of a support programme for the government's programme to assist the affected population following the flooding in the city of Bujumbura. The operation will contribute to the rehabilitation of infrastructure damaged by the floods. The financing, which is being provided in the form of a grant of up to USD 1,000,000, is justified by the extent of the damage caused by the floods, but also by the need to support the restoration of the various damaged infrastructures to working order and thus restore normal living conditions. The Bank's assistance will focus on the following three components: (i) restoring the functioning of flooded schools, (ii) contributing to the rehabilitation of irrigation works in rice-growing areas and (iii) the rehabilitation of sanitation works. The operation will be implemented over a period not exceeding six (6) months from the date of signature of the Letter of Agreement.
