Burundi - The Job Creation Programme Support Project

The project to support the job creation program is the Bank's third operation in Burundi focused on the fight against poverty through job creation actions and strengthening of the productive base according to the labor intensive method. It is part of a program supported by three donors, including the ADF, the World Bank (WB) and the Belgian Technical Cooperation (BTC). The project covers three provinces of the north central region of the country: Ngozi, Kayanza, Gitega. It aims at (i) medium-term: increased incomes, improved access to urban services, improved access to basic school infrastructure, establishment of a business support mechanism, and the protection of natural resources in the project area, ii) in the long term: improving the living conditions of the people. The project has two components: i) creating job opportunities and ii) managing the project. The duration of execution is 3 years. The total cost of the program is UA 51.01 million. The ADF amount is estimated at UA 10 million, or 20% of the total cost.
