The development objective of the Integrated Community Development Project for Burundi is to improve nutrition, access to basic services, and economic opportunities in the targeted areas. The project comprises of four components. The first component, commune socio-economic development grants will strengthen the government’s commune development planning process. It consists of following sub-components: (i) facilitation and capacity-building; and (ii) commune socio-economic development grants. The second component, livelihood, food security, and nutrition will employ a multi-pronged approach to enhance food security and nutrition by generating income, increasing food production, and supporting behavior change for better nutrition. It consists of following sub-components: (i) support to income-earning opportunities; and (ii) improving nutrition. The third component, project management, monitoring and evaluation, and capacity-building will strengthen the technical and administrative capacity of the government to manage the project. The fourth component, contingent emergency response component (CERC) will finance rapid response measures and early recovery activities to address disaster, emergency and or catastrophic events at the community level.
