Description

Description

The city has taken advantage of grant programs to acquire many high-capacity transit buses over the past six years. These are investments in service, and are essential to connecting people and places in a safe, reliable and cost-effective manner. As a piece of rolling stock, these buses have a manufacturer-designated life cycle (12 years). Our fleet services team does an excellent job of keeping these units in good condition to service our customers, and we intend to get the most life out of these assets by carrying out a bus refurbishment program in 2018. This would include replacing the original engine and powertrain of three articulated buses with the most environmentally-friendly option available on the market. This project would extend the life of the bus to 18 years while achieving the desired results of reliability and lower GHG emissions using the latest technology. The city tried to quantify the change in GHG emissions from the existing technology to that proposed in 2018. Unfortunately, the manufacturer could not share the aftertreatment system for their latest engine, the L9, as this information is not available.
