Bus Technology Improvements - Farebox and AVL

• The project involves the replacement and upgrading of outdated fareboxes and automatic vehicle location (AVL)/call out equipment, including next stop capabilities and vehicle Wi-Fi, on all 39 vehicles of the Sault Ste Marie transit fleet. • In addition to avoiding AVL and farebox breakdowns resulting from the use of aged equipment, the upgrading of the fareboxes and AVL equipment will increase the quality of the transit system by improving the accuracy of ridership reports, increasing the speed with which passengers can board the bus, increasing the accuracy of monitoring and tracking of bus location, and data tracking, which is important for any future route adjustments that may be required. All assets will be fully accessible for passengers with disabilities.
