BUSTER film festival for Children and youth is a festival focusing on community, co-creation, democracy, play and a strong European presence for the target audience 2-16 years of age. BUSTER is Denmark’s most important film and media event for children and youth, attracting more than 59.341 audiences year round in 2022. We are planning to screen 150+ films per festival, develop the industry part of the festival extensively, widen the collaboration with the European Industry and to increase the audience numbers considerably over the next five years, reaching 75.000 in 2028. The festival's main objective is to provide our young audiences with great experiences with the art of European film within the frame of the community of the cinema. BUSTER activates the senses, provides new perspectives for the audience on their lives and the surrounding world, and supports them to form their own opinions and find their foothold in a world, where media plays an essential role. European children and teenagers live in a mainstream media reality which presents infinite content guided by algorithms, but they lack access to curated quality content from European film and media. BUSTER views European children and teenagers not solely as media consumers, but also as creators via their phones, computers and tablets. They have access to the technologies, but lack the guidance and inspiration to create their own content. The hope of engaging them in European, Nordic and Danish culture and democracies through the film media is the driving force of BUSTER. This vision is based on dialogue with the festival's core audience with an ambition to expose them to European cinema, to create a festival community, and inspire them to participate in discussions and events in society and European culture at large.
