Description
Description | The Butterfly Bridge is a $114 million pedestrian bridge project in Agoura Hills, California, designed as a wildlife crossing over the 101 freeway. Originally estimated to cost $54 million and funded by private donors with some state funding, the cost has more than doubled to $114 million, with the majority now funded by taxpayers. The project includes unique features such as a fungi habitat designer, indigenous seed scouts, and a soil scientist to make the dirt feel more natural. Despite the high cost, the bridge is still not finished, and there are calls for a full independent public audit due to concerns about budget accountability and runaway costs. |
