Description

Butwal Power Company was planning the expansion of the 5.1MW Andhikola small hydropower plant (run-of-river) to 9.4MW. The project became operational in 1991 and was privatized with Butwal in 2003. Butwal was a privatized company (2003), and is 15% owned by the government of Nepal. Majority ownership (69%) is held by Shangri-La Energy Limited. The project consisted of 3 Pelton turbines of 1.7MW each, originally built from used equipment from Norway. The electric equipment is close to worn out, and this is a rehabilitation exercise. Detailed Project Report has been completed. Contractors have been selected. Generation license has been obtained and the PPA with NEA has been signed. The power is to be evacuated via a 33kV line, interconnecting with the 132kV Syangja Substation, near Rang Khola. Commissioning was epxected for 2012. Total output was expected to be 68.38GWh.
