Description | BW ESS is developing its first project in Germany, a large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of 1GW and a duration of up to 5.7 hours, located in Klostermansfeld, Saxony-Anhalt. The project is connected to a critical substation operated by the 50Hertz transmission system operator and is part of a significant infrastructure upgrade including the SuedOstLink interconnector. Early-stage construction has begun with road reinforcement and topsoil removal, and the project targets commercial operation date in Q4 2028. BW ESS is in the process of contracting suppliers and EPCs, aiming to optimize the duration and ensure grid fee exemption by August 4, 2029. |
