Description
Description | Cai Lan International Container Terminal LLC (“CICT”) is developing a new container terminal (the “Terminal”) within the Cai Lan Port in Quang Ninh Province in North Vietnam. The Terminal is expected to have a 594 meter berth, a 13 meter draft along-side the berth, four Panamax gantry cranes and supporting yard equipment, and a 25 hectare container yard. It would have 720,000 TEUs of handling capacity at completion. CICT will offer shipping lines significant cost savings by enabling the deployment of larger container ships which cannot call at the Hai Phong Port due to draft restrictions. This will provide much needed capacity to the market, improve Vietnam’s competitiveness and support the expected growth in Vietnamese exports. The Project involves construction, equipping and operation of berths 2, 3 and 4 in the existing Cai Lan Port. The Project comprises during construction phase: (i) stabilizing the land; (ii) dredging; (iii) constructing the berths and installation of cranes; (iv) developing the container yard and the frontage road; and (v) construction of administration, maintenance, and lunchroom buildings as well as the terminal gates. The operational phase for the Project would primarily involve: (i) maintenance dredging; (ii) transportation activities including: berthing of vessels, barges and the associated operations; and movement of road transport vehicles/trucks; (iii) receipt and dispatch of cargo in the terminal area; (iv) storage of containers; (v) terminal cleaning activities; (vi) maintenance of equipment; and (vii) other activities such as office/administrative functions. All the cranes and RTGs will be electrically operated. Other equipment that will be deployed at the terminal include top picks, side picks, yard tractors and yard chassis. |
