Description

Description

In February 2009, the US$200 million Cai Mep International Terminal project reached financial closure under a BOT contract. The information on the length of contract and contract award method was not publicly available. The project was developed by Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT), a joint-venture between APM Terminals (49%), the state-owned port of Saigon, and state-owned Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines). APM Terminals received approval to develop a joint-venture deep-water seaport from the Saigon Port Authority in January 2007. This project involved the development of a 2-berth, 1.15 million TEU equivalent unit capacity container terminal located at Cai Mep Thi Vai, Vung Tau province. In April 2008, the construction for the terminal began with POSCO and Samwhan Corp as EPC contractors for the design and implementation of the project. The project was expected to be operational on January 1, 2011.
