Description | In 1997, the Companhia de Saneamento Basico do Estado de Sao Paulo (SABESP – Sao Paulo’s public state utility) awarded a 14-year sub-concession contract to build, operate and transfer a potable water treatment plant to the Aguas de Cajamar consortium. The 8,640 cubic meters/day plant was expected to sell water to SABESP, the distributor in Sao Paulo, for the municipality of Cajamar with a population of about 30,000. The Aguas de Cajamar consortium was formed by Multiservice, Hidrogesp and REK Construtora LTDA. In 2001, Multiservice had its name changed to Earth Tech Brasil Ltda and became a subsidiary of Tyco Group. As of December 2005, the shareholders of Aguas de Cajamar were Earth Tech Brasil, REK Construtora, DH Perfuracao de Pocos (Hidrogesp) and JNS. The project cost was estimated at US$1.6 million (R$ 1.8 million, September 1997 value). Financing for the project has been provided by the consortium's own resources. By the end of 2002 the sponsors had met their investment commitments. The private sponsors started operating the facilities by the end of 1997. In 2011, the contract expired and was not renewed. As of December 2005, the shareholders of Aguas de Cajamar were Earth Tech Brasil, REK Construtora, DH and JNS.
