Description | The Caledonia Offshore Wind Farm is a multi-gigawatt offshore wind project located in the Moray Firth, Scotland. It is being developed by Ocean Winds, a joint venture between French utility Engie and Portugal's EDP Renewables. The project is planned in two 1GW halves, north and south, with the southern site expected to incorporate both fixed bottom and floating wind turbines due to water depths of 40-100m. The project has secured offshore consent, clearing the final major regulatory hurdle, and is capable of generating enough clean electricity to power the equivalent of two million homes. The fixed bottom portion is eligible for the UK's upcoming Contracts for Difference auction, and the floating portion may also become eligible, significantly expanding floating wind capacity in the auction. |
