California High-Speed Rail Project

planned

California's long-delayed high-speed rail project is facing renewed scrutiny due to a dramatically higher price tag, now estimated at roughly $231 billion, nearly seven times the original $33 billion projection approved by voters in 2008. The project aims to connect Los Angeles to San Francisco, with service between San Francisco and Bakersfield projected to begin around 2033 and full connection by 2040. The project's future depends on attracting private investors and focusing on a commercially viable vision, but skepticism remains about securing sufficient private capital.
