Description

Description

The Liquid Natural Gas Project for Algeria will assist in financing the construction and operation of a gas liquefaction plant at Arzew on the Mediterranean coast of Algeria. The plant will produce, store, and load tankers with liquefied natural gas (LNG) for export to British and French markets every year. In order to accomplish this function, the project will: 1) construct a gas liquefaction plant; 2) build a power plant for the production of steam and generation of electric power; and 3) construct port facilities for the storage and loading of LNG. These new additions will permit the exploitation of a natural resource, prevent the wasteful flaring of large quantities of natural gas, permit the profitable operation of an expensive pipeline, provide the Algerian government with direct increases in revenue , afford other less direct benefits from participation in some of the associated enterprises, and provide a limited stimulus to the economy through increased employment and the use of locally manufactured products. The Liquid Natural Gas Project will provide great economic benefits to Algeria.
