Description

Description

The First Power Project for Malaysia will assist in financing the construction of a 79,300 KW hydroelectric power station located about 100 miles north of Kuala Lumpur in the Cameron Highlands area of the Federation of Malaya. It is the first stage of a scheme to develop the power potential in a group of streams on the Cameron Highlands plateau. It will utilize the waters of the Kial, Telom, Habu and Bertram rivers and, within an overall distance of approximately 15 miles, discharge the outfall into the Batang Padang river. The project will consist of: 1) construction of headworks to divert the Telom and Kial rivers into the Bertram river through a free flow tunnel; 2) construction of an intermediate power station (Habu); and 3) construction of a concrete and rock filled dam and another free flow tunnel to a surge tank and pressure tunnel to an underground (Jor) station. These new constructions will increase electrical capacity in order to meet the growing demands for power in Malaysia.
