ECTE was awarded the concession contract to build and operate a 252.5-Km transmission line that runs from Campos Novos to Blumenau in the state of Santa Catarina. ECTE is a joint-venture of Schahin Engenharia, Alusa and the partially state-owned utility Celesc. The project involves an investment of US$ 58.5 million, financed with the sponsors own resources and with a loan from the BNDES approved in 2001. Construction works started in Nov. 2000 and should be completed by Dec. 2001. The concession contract will last 30 years, renewable for an additional 30-year period. By 2006, the project ownership was ECTE: Alusa 40%, Santa Catarina state power company Celesc 20%, Cemig 7.5%, Brascan 7.5% and Montana-Dakota Utilities Company 25%. As of December 2009, the company shareholding structure had change to the following: Alupar (40%), Celesc (22%), Cemig (13%) and MDU (25%). Neoenergia bought 51% of Empresa de Transmissão de Energia de Santa Catarina from engineering firm Schahin Engenharia, and 51% of Empresa de Transmissão de Energia do Rio Grande do Sul from engineering firm Engevix Engenharia.
