Canada Games 2023 Pownal Sports Centre Upgrades

The Project consists of upgrades to the existing Pownal Sports Centre to bring the venue up to hosting standards for the Canada Winter Games in 2023. These upgrades will increase the quality of this recreational infrastructure and provide benefits to the community beyond the Canada Winter Games. The Project works include: - Creation of two new dressing rooms and a new referee room through the reconfiguration of current space; - Installation of commercial grade wi-fi; - Replacement of rink dasher board and kick plate; and, Work at the facility is scheduled over two years, starting in September 2020, with the flooring, dasher boards and kick plate being installed in the summer of 2022, to ensure the facility has a new and renovated look for the Canada Winter Games. These upgrades will benefit residents of the municipality of Pownal and the broader community by increasing the quality of player and spectator experience for the duration of the 2023 Canada Winter Games and beyond. The Project will also improve operational and programming efficiency, which will result in approximately 500 additional visits to the facility per year.
