Description | The Project consists of upgrades to the existing Silver Fox Curling Club in the City of Summerside to bring the venue up to hosting standards for the Canada Winter Games in 2023 and future events. Work at the facility is required to rehabilitate deteriorated portions and upgrade the facility to meet current national sporting event standards and hosting capability. The Project works include: - Renovation of the existing public washrooms, athlete changing rooms, spectator viewing area, and reception area; - Upgrades to LED lighting; - Installation of sound system upgrades within curling rink area, spectator area, and athlete changing areas; - Replacement of the existing field of play viewing system for each of the 6 curling sheets; - Wall renewal within the curling rink area; - Upgrades to wayfinding signage; and, - Fixed spectator seating. The Project will improve the profile of the curling and entertainment complex and is expected to result in a 10% increase in annual visitation in curling and venue rental. The Project will correct accessibility deficiencies and promote greater access to the viewing and competition areas, resulting in a more inclusive facility. The upgraded facility will enhance athlete development and will advance the Province’s commitment to active living, thus benefitting all residents. |
