Canadian Patrol Submarine Project

Canada has selected Germany's TKMS and its German–Norwegian Type 212CD submarine as the preferred supplier for the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project. The project involves the procurement of up to 12 submarines, with delivery of the first four boats targeted to begin in 2034. The submarines are conventional, air-independent designs optimized for low acoustic and magnetic signature and under-ice operation. The project is Canada's largest-ever defence procurement, with costs estimated at CA$20–30 billion for acquisition and CA$60–80 billion for whole-of-life sustainment over three decades. The project is still in exclusive negotiations aiming to conclude contracting by the end of 2027, with some program details such as price, delivery sequence, Canadian workshare, and weapons integration still to be finalized.
