Description | Dominion Energy and Santee Cooper have proposed plans to construct a natural gas-powered energy plant in the Canadys area of Colleton County, South Carolina, on the banks of the Edisto River. The project includes the construction of a 70-plus mile underground natural gas pipeline through Hampton and Colleton counties, contracted to Elba Express Company, LLC (EEC), a Kinder Morgan company. The plant is expected to have a capacity of 2,000 megawatts and is planned to be operational by 2030. The project has faced opposition from local residents, landowners, and environmental groups due to concerns about environmental impacts, cost, and disruption to the ACE Basin ecosystem. |
