The project involves the waste collection, transportation, recycling and disposal services under 29-year concession in five towns: Çanakkale, Lapseki, Kepez, Çardak and Umurbey in province of Çanakkale, Turkey. The project also includes the construction of a mechanical biological treatment plant (which combines a sorting facility with biological treatment such as composting and producing energy from waste) and the refurbishment of a landfill and upgrade of a plant that treats leachate. The SPV is Suez Canakkale RR Atik Yonetim Hizmetleri AS, owned by Sita Cevre (90%), a SUEZ company and Altas Yapi Sanayi ve Temizlik Hizmetleri Ticaret AS (10%). The concession was awarded by the Canakkale Solid Waste Management Municipal Union after an international tender. The sponsors are contributing TRY 38.3 million or $ 6.64 million of own funds. The total project cost is TRY 95.8 million or $ 16.6 million of which the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) committed TRY 57.5 million (EUR 9 million or $ 9.96 million) .
