Description

Description

The redevelopment of two hospitals in Cape Breton will be done using P3s, the Nova Scotia government announced Thursday. The facilities, housing long-term care beds and community health centres, will be located in New Waterford and North Sydney. Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal Minister Lloyd Hines said a private company will pay to build and maintain the new facilities and lease them to the province, the CBC reported. “The analysis that we’ve done —extensive analysis over the past couple of years — tells us that there is a better-value-for money proposition,” he said. Hines said no decision has been made yet on whether a planned expansion at the Glace Bay hospital will use the P3 model, too. The province says an RFP for design services was issued on March 27, 2019. All of the facilities will continue to be operated by the NSHA.
