Description

Description

The West African Development Bank (BOAD) was founded in 1973 and is based in Lomé, Togo. It is managed by the eight member states of the Union économique et monétaire ouest-africaine (UEMOA) and supports the development of the region through low-interest financing. BOAD focuses on addressing common challenges such as poverty, inequality and climate change by investing in strategic sectors such as transport, energy, agriculture, real estate, health and education. KfW, on behalf of the German government, works closely with BOAD to support its goals. This includes topics such as sustainable economic development, training, employment, climate and energy. In addition, BOAD promotes innovative approaches such as Shock Resilient Loans (SRL) and the Digitalisation Fund to strengthen resilience against natural disasters and promote the digital transformation of the region. In addition to financial support for major projects, KfW supports BOAD in granting loans to small and medium-sized enterprises and in creating social housing for those in need. We are working together to establish BOAD as an important player in the sustainable development of West Africa and to improve living conditions in the region.
