Description

Description

This project conisits of conducting capital improvements to refurbish the aging existing fleet, with the objective of enhancing existing operations while also ensuring resiliency of transit services. These vehicles are already in service and will continue to maintain existing service coverage through the electric vehicle transition. The scope of work involves the refurbishment of 8, 30’ diesel buses. The work on the 8 buses includes drive train refurbishment (engine and transmission repair and replacement), structural repairs to body, HVAC system upgrades, and suspension and axle refurbishment. The aim of this project is to initiate a 4-phase project that will modernize and electrify the transit fleet. This first phase is focused on prioritizing fleet investment that deals with the challenges facing the system now; a rapidly increasing ridership post-COVID, with a system with the majority of its fleet reaching the end of its useful life. By refurbishing existing fleet, this will limit the number of new diesel buses required to ensure that the CATCC can keep up with the immediate demand for the transit system.
