Description

The project involves upgrading and widening Lot 3, a section of the Caransebes - Timişoara - Arad, to improve connections between Bucharest and the western part of the country, as well as the rest of Europe. The project involves the design and construction of almost 14 km of railway between East Timisoara and Ronat in western Romania and the upgrade of a single-track line to a double-track line. Three stations, five bridges and four overpasses will be built on the section that crosses the urban area of Timișoara.Lot 3 belongs to a project to extend the Rhine - Danube Corridor of the Trans - European Transport Network (TEN - T), which aims to increase traffic speed and capacity along the Caransebes - Timişoara - Arad railway between Bucharest and Timisoara. As a result of the project, passenger trains will be able to move at speeds up to 160 km/h, and freight trains – up to 120 km/h.
