Caravan is an international youth and social circus network built on a fair and equal membership system. It is composed of 25 members and 14 'friends’ among which 27 are based Erasmus+ programme countries. All these circus schools share the values of Caravan and support its mission. They are all different shapes and sizes and they all advocate for the positive impact of circus in the field of youth. The network was established in 2008 by 6 European circus schools, with a common goal to use youth and social circus as an educational tool and to dedicate this work to young people and most specifically to youth at risk from social exclusion. The members of Caravan are all very anchored in their local territory and socio-economic contexts. This local base provides the organisations with great expertise in knowing the needs of the young people involved in their activities (often young people with fewer opportunities). Recognised for the high quality of their work in the field of youth, most of Caravan members are pioneers in the field of youth and social circus. Therefore, the network creates the space and means through which to capture, share and learn from the knowledge of individual members and group activities. This insight, know-how and learning is then shared widely at a local, national and European level. Vision: Changing lives through circus. Mission: To use circus arts to create positive personal, community and social change. Caravan is structured around 4 guiding principles and work packages. These form the common core for all Caravan members. The network acts as : - A Community for building capacity, solidarity and mutual aid - An Expert in developing innovation and delivering increased quality in youth and circus education - A Catalyst for youth participation, youth leadership and civic participation - An Advocate for a more fair, sustainable, recognized sector
