Description

Description

The Peak Cluster project involves a major carbon capture and storage (CCS) initiative in the Peak District, UK, aimed at decarbonizing the cement and lime industry, which accounts for 40% of the UK’s cement and lime production and contributes significantly to global CO2 emissions (7.5% of human-made emissions). The project, described as the world’s largest cement decarbonization scheme, seeks to capture and store 3 million tonnes of CO2 annually from four cement and lime plants owned by Tarmac, Breedon, Buxton Lime (SigmaRoc), and Holcim, located in Derbyshire and Staffordshire. The captured CO2 will be transported via a high-pressure underground pipeline network to a permanent storage site in a depleted gas field under the Irish Sea, managed by Morecambe Net Zero (MNZ) and developed by Spirit Energy.
