Carbon Capture Demonstration Unit at Peace River Pulp Mill

Mercer International Inc. and Svante Technologies Inc. have launched a carbon dioxide capture demonstration unit at the Mercer Peace River pulp mill in northern Alberta. The pilot project tests Svante's solid sorbent carbon capture technology on biogenic CO₂ emissions from the mill's recovery boiler flue gas. The six-month demonstration aims to generate technical and operational data to support future engineering phases and long-term planning for potential commercial-scale deployment.
